Bengaluru has a modest total of 15.7mm of rainfall in December. The city has gone past and far exceeded this figure in the early days of December. More showers are in the offing and the city and suburbs will have short spells of fleeting rain/drizzle for the next four days, between the 04th and 08th Dec. A short break and the showers may resume again, around mid-week next.
Courtesy, remnants of cyclone Fengal, the low-pressure area moved across Peninsular India to enter the Arabian Sea. The low-pressure area still lies over the East-Central Arabian Sea in the proximity of the coastline of Karnataka. The system will move further westward but slowly. Also, there is cyclonic circulation moving east to west, in the equatorial region, over farther parts of the South Bay of Bengal. These two features together are keeping the northeasterly stream intact over the peninsula and coastline on either side. A few stations in the region like Karwar, Mangalore, Bengaluru, Cannur and Ooty have received moderate showers. Light rainfall has occurred at many places in the region.
The capital city of Bengaluru has recorded 80mm of rainfall in the past 3 days. It has surpassed the monthly average of 15.7mm. During last month, the rainfall was a deficit and the city observatory recorded 21.4mm against the monthly normal of 48.1mm. The recent wet spell has compensated and recovered the shortfall. November and December, together, have registered a rainfall of 105.4mm against the normal of 64.6mm. And, these are just the initial days of December, with a lot in store during the rest of the month.
The city will experience light rainfall during this week and go for a short break, thereafter. Next week, the spread and intensity could be more between 11th and 13th Dec. More often, this weather activity will occur in the evening and night hours. A sheet of very low clouds in the early morning/morning hours will remain a persistent feature. Pleasant weather conditions with mild winter chill are likely over and around the city for the next 10 days or even more.
