Rain in Bangalore

A short spell of rain with gusty wind has been reported in the beautiful city of Bengaluru. Light rain with good and hearty winds has been reported in various parts of the city which has brought a much needed sigh of relief for the residents of Bengaluru. This spell of rainfall was unexpected but welcomed with open arms.

This is a locally observed weather activity which has caused sudden drop in mercury. At present, the mercury is at a pleasant 20 degrees and it likely to be at this level for the time being. But, post this weather activity, dry weather is likely to make a comeback.

After such hearty rainfall, twitter lit up for a while in Bengaluru with beautiful pictures and videos of rainfall. Check out some of them here.

After a brief moment of rain over the beautiful Garden City of Bengaluru, temperatures are expected to rise quite a bit. Battling with hot and dry weather has become a norm for the residents of Bengaluru.

Bengaluru has been having a dry weather for a long time. Only on a few brief occasions in April, rain has made sure not to visit the city. Yesterday, the city witnessed a meager splash of rain and only 3 mm of rainfall has been recorded.

The reason for this rainfall can be attributed to the trough from south interior Karnataka to Kerala. But as of now even this trough has moved to west over Arabian Sea, paving way for much drier days for Bengaluru.

But, this rainfall has managed to do nothing for the weather of the city. For a long time, the maximum temperature of Bangalore has been floating in the 34-36 degrees mark. Such prolonged period of high temperatures need desperate rainfall and such low level of rainfall is definitely insufficient.

Rainfall during the month of April over Bengaluru is not uncommon. The average rainfall for the month of April over Bengaluru is 41.5 mm. This is a lot, when compared to actual rainfall for April 2017. So far, in this month, Bengaluru has received only about 10 mm of rainfall which is way less than the normal rainfall. With 13 more days to go and no rainfall in sight, reaching the normal rainfall figure will be a stupendous task.

According to Skymet Weather Chief Meteorologist Mahesh Palawat, "Bengaluru will continue to witness hot and dry weather conditions for next 4-5 days."
