The city of Bengaluru has recorded good rains in April. Rains were light in the last 24 hours to the tune of 1 mm. However, Bengaluru received 51 mm rain a day before. Since last four days Bengaluru has been receiving scattered rainfall.
During the last 4 days, on two occasions Bengaluru has received heavy downpour. While the monthly average rainfall for the city is 34 mm, between April 1 and 17, Bengaluru recorded 101 mm rain.
The record for the highest rainfall during the month is of of 323.8 mm in 2001. Meanwhile, the 24 hour rainfall record for April is of 108.6 mm on April 19 in 2001.
Talking about the present situation, a trough is extending from to south interior Karnataka at lower levels. We expect on and off rain to continue over the city for next 4 to 5 days with isolated heavy spells. Bengaluru may not break the highest monthly rainfall record of 2001 but this April seems to be one of the rainiest April for Bengaluru.
Monthly average of Bengaluru is in three digits between May and October with the September month seeing the highest rains at 212.8 mm.
