If you have been planning to tour the popular hill stations of North India from a long time but had halted your plans due to the ongoing rains and snow, this is probably the best time to book your trip to hills.
The popular hill stations like Srinagar, Manali, Shimla and Nainital have witnessed a good amount of rain and snow this winters. These hill spots have seldom observed clear weather conditions and have mostly remained under drenching rains and snow.
Kashmir, which is one of the top choices when it comes to touring snow-clad hills, was engulfed under a thick layer of snow spanning January until even the initial days of March. So much so, that news of avalanches hitting the higher reaches of the ‘paradise on Earth’ were also reported.
Similarly, the clean and scenic mountainous cities of Himachal Pradesh were also enveloped under thick layers of snow.
These rain and snow are a result of active Western Disturbance that affects the Western Himalayan region thereby lashing the popular hill stations.
However, as per Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance is moving further eastward across Jammu and Kashmir. Hence, the northern hills can expect the rain and thundershower activity to curtail down now. Though some light showers are expected at a few pockets of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in the next 24 hours, but these won’t be strong enough to hamper your travel plans.
In fact, Skymet Weather also foresees that 24 hours hence, the day temperatures will rise and mercury during the night will dip. The similar weather pattern is expected to remain in the Northern hills for at least another couple of days. In a way, this weekend is probably the best time to pack your bags and head towards the hills.
