2016 has been the year of abnormalities when it comes to weather. There are days when Pune has been cooler than Shimla, Delhi was under thick smog and Kerala remain rainless for most of the Monsoon. And adding to the list of weather related strange happening is that the current minimum temperatures of Ooty (Udhagamandalam) are way below than that of Shimla’s.

At present, the minimum temperature of Ooty is 6.8°C whereas Shimla’s minimum temperature is around 12.4°C. Even though the difference on papers is not much, the chill in the air can be felt more in Ooty than Shimla. The minimum temperature of Dehradun is 10.4°C, which is way more than Ooty.

Due to the absence of any moisture content in the southern plateau and the geographical hilly region of the station, Ooty gets such minimum temperatures. But the increased minimum temperatures of Shimla are due to the presence of Western Disturbance in the upper region. This system is not allowing the cool winds to blow over the region, thus increasing the minimums.

So for the people visiting Ooty right now may enjoy a weather which is much chiller than Shimla.
