Monsoon rains in Bangalore have revived once again after a lull of about five days. The city had been witnessing very light rain for the past few days. However, Monsoon rains have once again picked up pace over the silicon city.

Southwest Monsoon made an onset over Bangalore on June 9 with a delay of over a week. Since then, light rain has continued over the city keeping hot weather conditions at bay. In fact, maximums have not gone beyond the 30-degree mark for over ten days. Also, minimums have also remained well below around 20 degrees since then.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am, Bangalore recorded a good 25 mm of rain. The last time the city had received rainfall in double digits was on June 16. Since then, only light rain has been received. This year, Monsoon rains have displayed a better performance as compared to last year.

Last year, city did not even reach its monthly rainfall and received only 85.3 mm of rain. The monthly average rainfall for Bangalore stands at 89.1 mm. This year, Bangalore has recorded 160 mm rainfall as on June 23 which is almost double the amount of its monthly rains.

On and off rains will continue over the silicon city for the next few days. The possibility of moderate showers in between cannot be ruled out.
