Bangalore rains to possibly surpass monthly mean rainfall

June 8, 2016 6:51 PM | Skymet Weather Team

After several hours of thunder and lightning in Bangalore, it finally started raining few hours back in the city.

On Sunday as well, the city had received a whopping 47.7 mm of rain. After this spell of rain, the city had recorded a good 80 mm of rain, against the monthly average of 89.1 mm.

Looks like the monthly mean will soon be surpassed! We have just entered the second week of June and it will not be surprising if Bangalore breaks the all-time monthly record of 228.2 mm set in 1996.

Bangalore’s all-time 24-hour rainfall record stands at 101.6 mm, received on June 16, 1891. Also, during the last ten years, Bangalore has managed to receive 100 mm rain in 24 hours on just one occasion, in June 1, 2013.

As of now, we can expect on and off rains to continue over the city. In fact, Monsoon 2016 has officially entered Kerala now. The Monsoon line or the NLM (Northern Limit of Monsoon) is passing through Latitude 12°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 12°N/ Longitude 70°E, Kannur, Chennai, Latitude 14°N/ Longitude 84°E, Latitude 17°N/ Longitude 92°E and Latitude 18°N/ Longitude 94°E. Monsoon 2016 can reach Bangalore anytime now.

Twiterrati as usual, took social by storm as soon as rains began in Bangalore today, here's a look.
