Bangalore and Hyderabad could experience good amounts of rainfall under the influence of Cyclone Lehar this weekend. It would begin raining from late Friday and last throughout Saturday. During the period, weather in Bangalore and Hyderabad will be cloudy with light winds prevailing. Bangalore has been receiving rain due to the remnants of Cyclone Helen and other tropical weather systems that had been witnessed in the past two weeks. It rained heavily in the city last Sunday and Bangalore recorded the heaviest rainfall at 108 mm (in a span of 24 hours) in last the last decade during the month of November. Rain on Saturday night and Sunday led to a BMTC bus getting stuck in the swirling water at the Seshadripuram railway underbridge. Several low-lying areas of Seshadripuram, Journalist Colony (J C Road), Krishnappa Garden, DJ Halli, Sudhamanagar, Vasanthnagar, Sampangiramanagar, Banashankari, Indiranagar, Cholanayakanahalli, Cox Town and Kathriguppe were inundated in flood waters. Due to lack of rain, temperatures in Hyderabad have been maintaining above normal in the last few days. But this weekend will be different as Cyclone Lehar post landfall (even though it will weaken rapidly) will continue to influence the weather in South India. Photograph by Kenneth Lu
