The city of Bangalore has been experiencing unusually high temperatures since yesterday. On Saturday, maximum temperature at Bangalore airport touched 37°C. Day temperature in the region settled between 36 to 37°C for about five to six hours. The unprecedented heat here lasted between 12.00 pm in the afternoon to about 5.30 pm in the evening.

Interestingly, the average maximum temperature for Bangalore in the month of March is 33°C. The city sits at an elevation of about 3000 feet and generally experiences lower day temperatures. Also, usually March does not bring much weather activity in terms of rain. The average rainfall for the month of March is only 7 mm. But April onwards, the city does receive generous amount of rain.

In the last 10 years, there have been only three occasions when maximum temperature in Bangalore has crossed the 36°C mark. In 2005, day temperatures soared to 36.4°C and in the year 2013, maximum temperature touched 36.6°C. Also, last year in 2014, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 36°C. But the high temperatures recorded during these three years came during the fag end of the month of March. This year, however, temperatures have gone up in the beginning of the second half of the month.

Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail in Bangalore on Sunday as well. Day temperature in the city is expected to remain in the high 30s. The unusual heat and prevailing uncomfortable weather conditions are to persist for at least a couple of days. Such conditions are highly unusual for Bangalore which generally enjoys good weather conditions.
