In the last 24 hours, few isolated pockets in Odisha observed light rain and thundershower activities such as Daringbadi that recorded 2 mm of rain. Along with this, places like Chandabali and Balasore observed trace of rain. These rains have been attributed to the feeble confluence in lower levels which is extending from central parts of Madhya Pradesh to Gangetic West Bengal across parts of Chhattisgarh and North Odisha.
Now we expect light rainfall activity with one or two moderate spells to occur over northern parts of Odisha during the coming two to three days. However, on March 16 and 17, we expect few intense spells of thundershower activity over North Odisha.
Places like Mayurvhanj, Kendujhar, Sundergarh, Balasore, Deogarh and Jharsuguda may receive moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activities. Weather over the southern districts of Odisha such as Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Kalahandi will remain dry and warm.
Further, after March 18, weather conditions will once again dry over entire Odisha. During this pre-monsoon season, the state of Odisha is rain deficient by 63%, but the upcoming rains may bring improve this deficiency to some extent. At present, both day and night temperatures are above normal. Further, we expect minimum temperatures to remain the same. Whereas, maximum temperatures in northern parts of Odisha will drop.
