In the past 24 hours, scattered rain and thundershower activities mainly light in nature were witnessed in Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Places like Bilaspur, Durg, Ambikapur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Koraput witnessed rain and thundershower activities with traces ranging from a millimetre to six millimetre. This was because of the trough which was running from north to eastern parts of the country across central region. Now, this trough is extending from northeastern states to Chhattisgarh across North Bengal and Jharkhand.
According to meteorologists at Skymet, the activities are now likely to reduce as the system is likely to move further eastward over Chhattisgarh. Whereas, rain and thundershower activity are expected to increase over Odisha. This would be due to an anti-cyclone which is feeding moisture from Andhra Pradesh coast to Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. Hence, the weather activity will increase in next 24 hours. The northern parts of Chhattisgarh and north of Odisha would continue to witness rain and thundershower activities. Places like Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri, Ambikapur and Surajpur would be majorly affected.
The weather activity would be accompanied by strong winds gusting at 30-50 kmph at many places in Odisha. Moderate lightning and hailstorm are also possible during this period.
The weather during afternoon hours is expected to be warm and humid. The bulk of rain will happen towards afternoon or evening.
