Balasore, Cuttack, Asansol, Bankura continue to get light rains

Intermittent rains have thrown normal life out of gear in several parts of Odisha and West Bengal. While continuous rains have been occurring over most parts of Odisha from quite a long time now. Most of the coastal and northern parts of the state had witnessed good rains almost the entire month. In fact, Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata have been receiving good rainfall activities.

Since the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Balasore recorded 64.8 mm of rain, Burdwan 56.8 mm, Malda 48.2 mm, Digha 42.1 mm, Gopalpur 36.4 mm, Puri 34.7 mm, Diamond Harbour 19.8 mm, Keonjhargarh 19.7 mm, Asansol 17.6 mm, Dhenkanal 17 mm, Paradip 14.8 mm, Pulbhani 15 mm, Sriniketan 12.3 mm, Chandbali 11.8 mm, Cuttack 10 mm, Midnapore 9.2 mm, Koraput 9 mm, Bankura 7.6 mm, Baharampur 6 mm, Bhabanipatna 5 mm, Kolkata 3.4 mm, Titlagarh 2 mm and Angul 1.8 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Northwest Bay of Bengal. A trough is also seen extending from North Rajasthan up to Northwest Bay of Bengal which is likely to move across Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. Under its influence, light to moderate rains will continue to occur in many parts of Odisha. While Coastal Odisha will continue to receive good rainfall activities for the next 24 to 48 hours.

As on July 13, West Bengal and Odisha are rain deficient by 12% and 8%, respectively. In the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy showers have occurred along the Odisha Coast. While Gangetic West Bengal has also received light to moderate rainfall activities. The intensity of rainfall over these States is likely to reduce further.

Meanwhile, light rains cannot be ruled out over interior parts of Odisha. However, light rains are expected to continue in many parts of West Bengal and few moderate spells may also occur over Coastal areas including Kolkata during the next 24 to 48 hours.
