Back to back weather systems keep Monsoon active over Vidarbha

September 26, 2016 8:06 AM |

Vidarbha RainSouthwest Monsoon has been kind enough for the Vidarbha sub-division of Maharashtra this year. So much so that active Monsoon conditions have been observed over the region on several occasions this season.

The month of September has turned out be even better for the region. All thanks to the constant development of weather systems in close proximity of the region. At present, a low pressure area is over Vidarbha and adjoining areas of Telangana and Chhattisgarh.

This weather system has been lingering over the region for the past few days and the region has been witnessing quite a few good spells of rains. In fact, a day before, Chandrapur received a whopping 120 mm of rain in a mere 24 hours.

Now, during the next 24 hours, more rains are expected to lash the Vidarbha region keeping Southwest Monsoon active over many parts. The system is expected to move away after a while, however, this is not the end of Monsoon rains for Vidarbha.

In fact, another cyclonic circulation is over North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas. This system is also expected to move towards the Vidarbha region resulting in more Monsoon showers.

At present, Vidarbha is witnessing a rainfall surplus of 4 percent. With more showers in the offing for the region, it is most likely that Vidarbha will end the Southwest Monsoon on a surplus note.
