These spells of rain and snow were due to the active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir. The spell was so intense that the Jammu and Kashmir highway has to be closed. Usually, after heavy snowfall activity, there are higher chances of an avalanche to hit the prone areas.
Therefore, Skymet Weather had issued a warning for the occurrence of Avalanche between February 14 and 16. An avalanche hit a ski resort in Gulmarg, a famous hill station in Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.

As per media reports, a 30-year-old Russian skier Stanis Dav, who had come along with his four friends to enjoy the ski sport has been declared dead. However, the other four skiers had been rescued and taken to the hospital by the police.
Regardless the avalanche warnings, Dav, and his friends went ahead for skiing. They were skiing near Apharwat peak in Harpat Khund area when they were lashed by the avalanche. As soon as the police got the information, they rushed to the spot to rescue the skiers but by then Dav had lost his life.
