An avalanche hit the Army post in Kargil region of Jammu and Kashmir on March 17. Due to this weather activity, two soldiers had gone missing from the region.
While one of the soldiers was rescued the same day, the other soldier has not yet been found. As of March 20, he remains missing.
Rescue operations are doing their best to find that one missing soldier.
While rain and snow are likely to reduce from Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, isolated weather activity may hinder the rescue operations.
As per Col. SD Goswami, army's Northern Command spokesperson, a mild earthquake at about 10.45 pm on March 17 triggered the avalanche at the army post near Kargil, which is located at a height of 17,500 feet.
The avalanche washed away two of the soldiers who were on surveillance duty during that time. The one rescued soldier has been provided with medical aid and is now stable. The other still remains missing and hasn’t yet been found.
Only a few days ago, a devastating avalanche had hit the Siachen Glacier and buried 10 soldiers in 25 feet of snow. Even though one of them was miraculously rescued, he died four days later.
