A fresh Western Disturbance is up and coming in the hills. This system is going to affect western hills by the evening of March 10, i.e. today. As a matter of fact, the impact of this Western Disturbance will be felt mainly over the plains of Northwest India. One or two places over the hills of Jammu and Kashmir might also receive rains and snow today.
The rain intensity will pick up from the evening of March 11. This is when we expect fairly widespread rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Uttarakhand. The higher reaches might even receive snowfall activities.
These rains and snowfall activities are likely to continue until March 15 i.e. the upcoming Sunday. As per the forecast, back to back Western Disturbances will keep approaching the hills of Western Himalayas between these five days. Thus, the weather will not go dry over the hills until March 15.
The upcoming fresh activity might lead to avalanches in upper reaches. Incidents of mudslides and landslides also cannot be ruled out.
In fact, the western hills have been receiving rains and snow for the last many days now. This only increases the chances of occurrences of avalanche over the region. People traveling to hills during this time are cautioned to remain vigilant.
