The state of Maharashtra does not receive much rainfall from January to April. During the winter months of January and February, the weather systems do not penetrate as far as Central India.

Breaking all records, the city received 41 mm of rain in just 24 hours on Thursday. This is the all-time highest 24 hours rainfall after March 10 when the city had received 25.4 mm of rain.
At present, Maharashtra is going through a prolonged spell of rain. Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada have received good showers. Such a long spell at this time of the year is uncommon and unseasonal.
Mostly, even the monthly rainfall figures do not cross 40 mm in most of the stations. Generally, in 8 out of 10 years, the total monthly rainfall also does not cross this figure in Aurangabad and adjoining areas.
