Aurangabad enjoys good Monsoon rains

July 11, 2016 12:36 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The city of Aurangabad has received 97.7 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. This is the second good spell in entire Monsoon season. Previously, on June 17, the region received 39 mm of rain. So it can be said that Monsoon 2016 is turning out to be quite well for the Aurangabad.

Since June 17, the weather has remained mostly dry over the city. However in July, light to very light rain has occurred over Aurangabad. The monthly average rainfall in July for Aurangabad is 150.9 mm.

Aurangabad lies in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra and Marathwada is one of the driest areas in the country. Its geographical location is such that whatever weather system originates in the Arabian Sea, it fails to give rain over this region.

Similarly, any weather system originating in the Bay of Bengal also gives its complete moisture content to the East Coast of India before reaching upto to Aurangabad or the Marathwada region.

In the last 10 years, Aurangabad has received only very few heavy spells of good rainfall during a span of 24 hours. On July 29, 2010, the city received 106 mm of rainfall and on July 5, 2006, the city received 98 mm of rainfall.

However, after the rain performance in last 24 hours, we expect few good showers during next 24 hours as well. Thereafter, dry weather will persist. However, light rain activity will go on for the time being. This rainy spell will be enough for sowing of Kharif crop.
