August to end on a rainy note for Delhi

August 28, 2016 3:19 PM |

Delhi Rains 1

Delhi is at present rainfall deficient by 12%. And it is likely that rainfall figures of the national capital will not be at normal by the end of August. Even with the rains over the city, this August is touted as one of the driest months in almost a decade. Since the commencement of Monsoon, i.e. from June 1 till date, Delhi has received 444.4 mm of rains against the normal rainfall of 507.6 mm of rains.

Although since last few days scattered light patchy rains are going on over parts of Delhi. But these rain activities are highly localized and don’t have enough power to make a shift in the rainfall figures. Therefore the temperatures are usually seen on the higher side. So far, the weather conditions are no more than humid and sultry.

Until and unless fairly widespread rainfall occurs, it is highly unlikely that the temperatures will go down. Now we expect that the axis of Monsoon trough will shift towards north and rain activities are likely to increase over northern plains including Delhi.

So in next 2-3 days we expect that rainfall spread and intensity will increase over Delhi & NCR and few moderate showers will occur over Delhi till the end of August.
