Last week was rainy and snowy for the hills of North India. In fact, the region witnessed heavy snowfall resulting in a series of avalanches as well. Many popular hill stations including Shimla were covered in a blanket of crisp snow. These cities looked no less than a wintry wonderland.
Not only this, the plains of North India also witnessed some rainfall activity. So much so that Delhi observed a rainy Republic Day which happened to be the rainiest in quite a few years. Other parts of Punjab and Haryana including Amritsar also witnessed rains during the last week.
Now, weather conditions have taken a turn and warm weather conditions have taken over. Several parts of the plains of North India are observing above normal temperatures. Not only this, the hills of North India are also recording above normal temperatures.
Today, the minimum temperature in Shimla was recorded at 5.6 degrees which is at least three degrees above the normal levels. In a similar fashion, Amritsar also recorded its minimum at 5.6 degree Celsius, a notch above the normal levels.
These conditions are attributed to the change in wind pattern to southerly-southwesterly. Thus, not only are the plains observing warm weather conditions, the hills of North India are also observing warmer days. During the next 24 hours, the temperatures are likely to increase even further.
