The month of December for national capital territory has been generally dry barring just two days, i.e. December 12 and 13 when rainfall recorded was just 1.4 mm. The rains were light in nature and then the minimums clocked around double digits and were somewhere around 11°C for both the days. However, in winters the minimums generally remain in single digit.
As per the records, last three consecutive days have been seeing drop in minimums. Today morning, i.e., on December 18, the lowest for this season for this season was recorded wherein the minimum went down to 5.1°C from 6.1°C, on December 17. Whereas on December 16, the minimum was 7.2°C.
Last year in 2017, during winter season, the minimums crossed the mark of 6°C plus whereas, this year it has already come below 6°C which is a general phenomenon. The lowest minimum is generally recorded at fag end of the month, somewhere near Christmas or New Year.
As per weathermen at Skymet, minimums can further drop in coming days and will hover around four to five degrees (+/-). Near Christmas, the minimums can come to double digit and the strange thing about this season so far is that we haven’t seen any cold day till now. Days become cold during winters, that is the maximums come below 16°C when there are persistent clouds and rainfall activity.
It is generally at the fag end of this month, when cold days can be witnessed with dense fog in offing. As of now, days are pleasantly warm and comfortable with chill in the air during late evening, night and early morning.
Talking about pollution, it is expected that it will not enter severe zone but will continue to remain in poor to very poor category with moderate in isolated pockets. During early morning hours, the pollution levels can enter ‘very poor’ zone.
