Delhi and the NCR region has been observing hot weather conditions for quite some time now. In fact, heatwave conditions have been persisting over the national capital for the past two days.
While the maximum temperatures at the Palam observatory settled at 44.7 degrees a day before, they increased to a whopping 45.4 degrees yesterday, making it the hottest day of the season. The minimum also reached the 30-degree mark today which happens to be a notch above the normal levels.
These weather conditions are attributed to the hot and dry winds coming from Rajasthan and Pakistan. Temperatures here already have been settling well above the normal levels. With these winds blowing over Delhi and adjoining areas, heatwave conditions gripped the city.
However, good news awaits the residents of Delhi and the NCR region. Ever since yesterday, strong northwesterly winds have begun to blow over Northwest Plains. Isolated rain and thunderstorm occurred over parts of Haryana.
In the last 24 hours, many parts of Pakistan witnessed heavy to extremely heavy rains. Now, winds are blowing from Northwest, therefore temperatures have decreased over many parts of Northwest India.
As per weathermen, heatwave conditions will abate now from Delhi and the NCR region.
In fact, a trough is extending up to Haryana which is why scattered thunderstorm and thundershowers activity are expected over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi today and tomorrow.
Temperatures will remain on the lower side with marginal relief over many parts. Another spell of rain and thundershowers are expected over Delhi and the NCR region between May 20 and 23, which will bring down the temperatures even further.
