As predicted earlier, Mumbai today recorded 40.3°C as the day temperature, crossing the 40 degrees Celsius mark for the first time in the season so far. This recorded maximum is eight notches above the normal average for the month.

Mumbaikars have been battling extremely uneasy weather conditions since the last 24 hours.  Yesterday also, the maximum temperature soared to 36.7°C, which was four degrees above the average.

There is a possibility of temperatures crossing the 40-degree mark even tomorrow as north-easterly winds would continue to blow over the area. Thus, we do not expect any relief from the ongoing extremely hot weather conditions.

As per weathermen, the temperature may not be much but presence of high humidity makes the feel like factor are usually even above the recorded ones.

Mumbai usually records temperatures averaging in the lower 30s in the month of March. This month, the city has been observing milder temperatures till now. And only on a few occasions, the maximums crossed the 35-degree mark.

Mumbai’s weather is mainly governed by the sea and the wind pattern. With land breeze, temperatures rises and as soon as the sea breeze sets in, mercury starts falling. Day maximums soaring above 35°C in Mumbai is not very unlikely for the season. Looking through the figures for the last few years, temperatures usually are recorded close to 40°C in the month of March.

Unlike the rest of the country, Mumbai does not see much of pre-Monsoon activities. In fact, these activities pick up pace just before the arrival of Monsoon in June.
