At 40.5 degrees, Lucknow reels under hot weather; no relief soon

Since last many days, rain gods have been hiding their face away from the 'city of Nawabs’, Lucknow. So much so, that the city has been witnessing hot and dry weather conditions. The maximum of Lucknow yesterday was 40.5°C.

The reason for this dry weather condition over Lucknow can be attributed to the absence of any weather system over the region. Due to this, rains refrained from pouring over and thus the mercury levels soared. The last time it rained in Lucknow was on June 1 when the capital of Uttar Pradesh recorded light rains of 4 mm. Since then, the city has been seeing dry weather till date.

As per Skymet Weather, the normal date of onset of Southwest Monsoon over Lucknow is between June 20-25, and we may expect Monsoon 2017 to arrive in Lucknow by the last week of June.

Skymet Weather further reiterates that there are no significant weather systems over the city during the next two to three days. Therefore, dry weather conditions are expected to prevail and Lucknow is still expected to reel under hot weather.

Though the average monthly rainfall for the state capital stands at 107.8 mm and till date, the city has just recorded 4 mm of rains and as no rains are anticipated in the near future, it is a worth wait and a watch situation if Lucknow manages to surpass its monthly mean.

However, by June 18-19 isolated dust storm and thundershower activities can be expected over the region. Thereafter, rain is likely to pick up the pace and bring in the much-needed relief from the ongoing sizzling weather.
