Temperatures in Delhi have consistently been dropping for the last eight days, leading to severe cold conditions in the city. Minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 4.2°C on Monday Morning, which is 4 degrees below the normal average and the lowest for the season so far.
Since, December 14, when the minimum was recorded at 12.8°C, there has been a drastic drop in the night temperatures. And the cold dry winds have further added to the chill in the city. Fog has also made a grand entry with visibility at the Palam airport recording nil on Monday morning.
Though, this is time when night temperatures begin to drop in Delhi, the minimum of 4.2°C recorded on Thursday is only the fifth occasion in the last ten years when the city has seen the temperature drop below 5°C. The lowest minimum recorded in Delhi during December in a decade is 2.4°C, witnessed on December 30, 2013.
Meanwhile, the day temperatures have also fallen a great deal. In fact the maximum of 15°C recorded on Sunday is also the lowest of the season so far. The maximums settling at such low levels due to cloud cover and absence of any sunshine is another reason for the unbearable chill in the city.
These temperatures are going to maintain for at least a couple of days. Minimums will stay between 5-6°C, while the maximums will hover around 17°C.
