At 196 mm, Valsad records very heavy rains

Gujarat had an average pre-Monsoon period. Heavy rainfall was not witnessed much over Gujarat. The Southwest Monsoon made an onset over Gujarat slightly later than its usual time. Monsoon has covered many parts of the State. Rest of the remaining parts will be covered by Monsoon in the next few days.

On and off rains have been a regular affair over Gujarat. Though a few good spells of rain had occurred over the state, it was June 10 when Valsad in Gujarat had last seen very heavy rains. On June 10 Valsad had recorded 126 mm of rainfall.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Saturday Valsad recorded 196 mm of heavy rainfall. A cyclonic circulation is over South Pakistan and adjoining Gujarat. Also, an offshore trough along the West Coast is active. Due to these combined weather systems, good rains have occurred Gujarat and will continue to splash parts of the state.

As on June 24, Gujarat is deficit by 17% rainfall. But due to the ongoing rainfall activities, the deficit rainfall amount may get covered. Temperatures are have also dipped a bit due to rain.
