At 180 mm, Gorakhpur records highest rains in a decade; flood situation in Bihar to improve

Bihar witnessed light to moderate intensity of rains in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains occurred over the northern districts of Uttar Pradesh. At present, the axis of monsoon trough continues to run along the foothills of Himalayas. Due to this weather system, good rains are occurring over the states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

It is anticipated that rains are likely to reduce over the state of Bihar but Uttar Pradesh may continue with good showers for another 24 hours. In the past day, Gorakhpur witnessed extremely heavy rain. Even the neighboring country Nepal is witnessing very heavy rains which have raised the water levels of the rivers.

These rivers flow across the districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar which has led to floods in many districts of the states. Mainly the northern districts have been hit by floods across both the states. Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh will witness good showers.

In Bihar, East and West Champaran, Supaul, Kishanganj are likely to witness good rains. As we expect the weather to start improving by August 16 over these two states, therefore flood situation will improve.

In the past 24 hours from 8.30 am on Sunday, Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh received extremely heavy rain of 180 mm and Bahraich 36 mm. In the same span of time Purina in Bihar received 19.3 mm of moderate rain, Bhagalpur 9.5 mm.

However, Supaul, Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, and Chapra witnessed very light intensity of rains.  Patna, Gaya will continue receiving light showers with one or moderate. Allahabad and Varanasi will get very light rain. Rain intensity in Lucknow and Kanpur will reduce significantly.
