Monsoon rains lashed Bareilly with extremely heavy three-digit rains to the tune of 132.3 mm on Thursday, making it the second highest rains in a decade to be recorded in 24 hours. In fact, August began on a wet note for Bareilly which has been receiving good showers for the last three days.
Counting on these, the city has already recorded a total of 299 mm of rains in a mere three days against its monthly normal of 319 mm. In fact, moderate to heavy rains have been occurring over the city for the last ten days.
As per Skymet Weather, the weather was almost dry over the city until the second week of July with occurrences of some light spells only. However, it was after July 22 that the rains picked up the pace and since then, there has been a no looking back for the city with drizzles to moderate rains occurring almost every day.
The reason for these rains can be attributed to the low-pressure area which was persisting over northwest Uttar Pradesh. The axis of Monsoon trough also played a pivotal role in enhancing the rain activities over the city.
At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Bareilly and the low-pressure area is also persisting over the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. In the wake of this, moderate rains would continue over Bareilly and adjoining areas for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rains would reduce as the monsoon trough will oscillate north or south and will remain in the vicinity of Bareilly.
However, the weather would not become completely dry and prolonged dry spell is not expected for at least next ten days. Hence, with some more rains on the card, the city is just on the verge of surpassing its monthly mean.
