Updated on December 24, 2015: Cold mornings return to Mumbai
It seems like cold weather conditions have refused to take a back seat in Mumbai. The city has been witnessing some unusual cold nights and mornings during last few days.
Mumbai had recently recorded season's coldest morning on December 24, with minimum temperature plunging to 11.4°C. However, temperatures had soon increased thereafter.
The morning chill is back as minimum temperatures have registered a significant drop once again. On Monday, Santacruz Observatory in Mumbai recorded morning temperature of 13.3°C, which was four degrees below normal.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, presently cold and dry northeasterly winds are reaching up to North Coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai across Madhya Pradesh. Weather conditions are not expected to see any major change during next 48 hours and hence, minimum temperatures will continue to settle on the lower side.
By December 30, wind pattern is likely to change that would lead to an increase in morning temperatures.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Mumbai remains unaffected and is settling slightly above normal.

Mumbai has been witnessing unusual cooler nights and pleasant days for the last couple of days, with both day and night temperatures settling below normal average temperatures.
Minimum temperatures have been witnessing a significant drop. While, there has been slight dip in maximum temperatures.
On Wednesday, Mumbai recorded minimum temperature of 11.6°C, which is six degrees below normal. On Thursday, Mumbai witnessed minimum dropping further to 11.4°C. The normal minimum temperature for the city during December is 17°C. This is also the second lowest minimum temperature recorded during last 10 years.
The cold northerly winds reaching upto the North coastal Maharashtra across Rajasthan and Gujarat has dropped the minimums in all these areas. Expect the same situation to continue for tomorrow, though with a marginal rise.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, cold and dry northwesterly winds have been blowing over the region from Pakistan, forcing temperatures to settle on the lower side.
The situation will be same for some time as minimums and maximums will continue to be below normal for next 24 hours.
As per Skymet, the wind pattern is expected to change thereafter. Warm and moist westerly winds blowing from the sea will replace the cold northwesterly winds. This will lead to a rise in temperatures that will start crawling back to normal.
