During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Ahmedabad observed very heavy rains of 100 mm resulting in flooding in many areas. The city also witnessed a whopping 41 mm of rainfall on July 2. In fact, moderate showers have been lashing one of the largest cities of Gujarat for the last few days.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat and adjoining areas. Moisture incursion had increased over the region resulting in cloud development and heavy rains over the city.

In just about four days in the month of July, Ahmedabad has been able to witness around 149 mm of rainfall. The monthly average of rains for July in Ahmedabad stands at 291 mm. Thus, the city in less than a week has been able to receive half of its monthly rains.

As per weathermen at Skymet, light to moderate rains will continue over Ahmedabad and its adjoining areas for the next 24 to 48 hours. However, the rainfall intensity will not be as heavy as it was during the last 72 hours.
