At 1.2 degrees, Amritsar records lowest minimum of season again

Amritsar reeled under a freezing 1.2°C today which was the season’s lowest minimum temperature. In fact, it was the coldest city in the plains of North India today. This is the second time that the city has seen minimum falling to this extent this season. Prior to today, Amritsar shivered under 1.2°C on January 9 as well.

Usually, January is the peak winter period for the northwestern plains of the country. The average monthly minimum temperature of Amritsar stands at 3.9°C with the monthly average maximums at 19.3°C.

Which is why the temperatures across Amritsar have remained beneath the 5-degree mark on most of the occasions. However, on January 12 the city recorded the minimum temperature at 7.5°C which was higher than its average minimum.

The city also receives a fair amount of rainfall with the monthly average for January being 28 mm. However, the city has not recorded any rains during the entire month of January so far.

Fog occurrences are also very frequent for the city of Amritsar usually during this period. However, this season, even the number of fog days have also remained quite less. As far as today is concerned, dense fog was observed in isolated pockets of the city with the visibility dropping to nil during the early morning hours.

As per Skymet Weather, similar weather condition is expected to prevail in Amritsar in the coming days as well. Foggy days with low minimums will continue to make people shiver for another one week.

The Western Disturbance affecting Western Himalayas while moving across may result in some shallow clouds but rains will remain absent.
