Northeast India has been witnessing rains of varied intensity since many days. The hefty showers have once again revived the Assam Floods. During the last 24 hours also, active Monsoon conditions prevailed over the state.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Sunday, Mangam in Sikkim recorded heavy rain of 149.2 mm. Cherrapunji also witnessed moderate rains of 33.2 mm, Pasighat 53 mm, Itanagar 70 mm, Dibrugarh 36.7 mm, Goalpara 34.5 mm and Silchar 42.7 mm.
Meanwhile, Anni recorded light rains to the tune of 16 mm, Barpeta 16 mm, Kailashahar 14.2 mm and Agartala 12.7 and North Lakhimpur 29 mm, Kohima 6.8 mm, Aizwal 9 mm, Guwahati 4 mm, Jorhat 3 mm and Imphal 2.5 mm of rain.
Due to continuous rains, relief is not expected in Assam and flood situation may become worse.
These hefty showers can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is persisting over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

The humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are increasing moisture feed over the region which is resulting in more rains. It is anticipated by Skymet Weather, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim will continue witnessing light to moderate rains with few heavy spells during the next 24 to 48 hours.
However, the rainfall activity will continue throughout the week but the intensity will reduce significantly. At present, Northeast India is the rainiest part of the country in comparison to other regions.
