The northeastern states are witnessing heavy rains for a long time. Especially Assam is witnessing very heavy rainfall which has resulted in floods over the region. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am the following cities received moderate to heavy rainfall.

As per Skymet Weather, these weather activities can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently persisting over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining West Assam. The intensity of rain has increased majorly over West Assam due to the weather system over it.

The intensity of rains may reduce after July 12 which may reduce the level of accumulated water due to floods. But still, good rains will continue over other sister states. Though, the intensity will not be as severe as Assam. In spite of ongoing heavy rains, Assam and Meghalaya is deficit by 12%.

However, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura (NMMT) are rain surplus by 20%. Now, these heavy rains for the next four to five days are likely to bring down the rain deficit of Assam and Meghalaya.
