Assam has received light to moderate rain and thundershower activities during the last 24 hours but Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have received heavy to extremely heavy rains during the same time frame.
As predicted by Skymet Weather, heavy to extremely heavy rains are expected over many parts of northeastern states. Majorly Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya will receive heavy to very heavy rains until August 10.
As heavy rains are likely over Assam for another two to three days, the flood conditions which were improving are likely to worsen once again. Presently more than 25 lakh people are affected and the numbers can increase with the upcoming rains.
Presently 29 districts out of 33 districts of Assam have been flood affected due to the heavy rains which occurred in the last month. Severe floods occurred over Lakhimpur Kheri, Jorhat, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Karimnagar, and Barpeta in July. Even Kaziranga National Park and adjoining wildlife sanctuaries got affected. Prime Minister made a visit to the state and even declared relief fund of 2000 crore.

Thereafter, rain intensity will decrease over Arunachal Pradesh while Assam and Meghalaya will continue witnessing moderate to heavy showers with few extremely heavy spells till August 13. After that, intensity will reduce over these areas also but on and off light to moderate rains will continue.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Silchar in Assam received 23.6 mm of rain, Goalpara 14 mm, North Lakhimpur 13.4 mm, Guwahati 8.6 mm and Dhubri 13. 6 mm of rain. Cherrapunji in Meghalaya witnessed extremely heavy rain of 224.8 mm and Shillong received moderate intensity rain of 28.6 mm. In the same span of time, Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh received 146.4 mm of rain and Itanagar and Anni witnessed light rain of 8.6 mm and 4 mm respectively.
