The Assam floods have become a matter of concern for the entire country. Heavy rains refused to take a back seat from the north eastern state even yesterday. The region has been reeling under flooding for quite some time now.
The Assam chief minister after assessing the flood situation has asked his cabinet ministers to step up rescue operations, take note of the flood situation as well as ensure that all facilities are given to the once who have been affected in the floods.

The CM has also asked the ministers to see how much damage has been caused due to the flood as well as erosion and to be in constant touch with the victims so as to ensure that all their needs are taken care of.
As far as the rainfall is concerned, the state of Assam continues to witness heavy rains. In fact, during the last 24 hours from 8:30 a.m on Saturday, North Lakhimpur recorded a massive 131 mm of rain. Moderate to heavy rains were also witnessed over other areas including Dibrugarh 48 mm, and Tezpur 27 mm.
The death toll has now increased to 22 as per media reports. At least 4.5 lakh people have been affected due to the floods in 17 districts of Assam including Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Majuli, Nagaon, , Chirang and other adjoining areas.

About 188 relief camps and centres have been set up. As per the ASDMA, at least 932 villages are submerged in flood waters and the crop area damage is of about 30000 hectares. Not only this, River Brahmaputra continues to flow above the danger mark in areas of Dhubri, Jorhat and Goalpara.
While there has been a very slight improvement in the flood conditions, rains will continue to last the state of Assam during the next 24 to 48 hours. Thus, significant relief is not expected anytime soon.
