The northeastern region of the country has remained dry almost throughout the month of February. Despite witnessing some light spells during the second week of the month, the rains have remained on the lower side of this region.
However, the last 24 hours were a bit different for some parts of Northeast India as some light spells occurred over the region. However, these rains remained mainly confined to the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, the other regions remained dry.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, North Lakhimpur recorded 3 mm of rains, Jorhat 2 mm, and Silchar recorded 0.4 mm of rains. On the other hand, Dibrugarh and Pasighat witnessed some light traces of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation can be seen moving across Eastern Tibet region. Moreover, a trough is also seen extending from East Bihar to Bangladesh.

In addition to this, light northeasterly winds are also prevailing over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. This weather system was responsible for giving light rains over both the regions.
Furthermore, scattered light rain and thundershowers are expected to occur over parts of Arunachal Pradesh and upper Assam today. Additionally, the higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh may even witness light snowfall activity.
Light snow is also possible at isolated parts of Sikkim and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Nagaland is also expected to witness some light rain and thundershowers. The activity is expected to reduce after 24 hours.
