Assam and Arunachal Pradesh witness good rain, more in offing

March 9, 2016 12:11 PM |

Rain in Northeast IndiaSeveral parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have been witnessing good showers for the last two to three days. However, intensity of rain has been varying from light to moderate.

Sikkim has also recorded some good showers during this period.

Dibrugarh has recorded 54 mm of rain in span of 72 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday. Similarly, North Lakhimpur has received 73 mm of rain.

According to Skymet Weather, the rain activity can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation persisting over Meghalaya and adjoining areas. The cyclonic circulation has been activated once again with the passage of Western Disturbance.

After affecting hills of North India, Western Disturbance travels from west to east direction and affect Northeast India.

Moreover, as we enter into March, there is a change in wind pattern that leads to persistent cyclonic circulation over Northeast India that gets more marked on account of any trough or Western Disturbance.

We can expect the rainy spell to continue for another 24 hours, reducing thereafter. The prevailing weather system is likely to weaken by that time, leading to clear weather conditions over the region Thursday onwards.

Isolated hailstorm is also likely over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. According to Skymet Weather, Northeast India is also prone to hail storm during March. The persisting cyclonic circulation along with rising temperatures makes hail storm activity common during March.
