During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains occurred over southern districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Several other districts of Andhra Pradesh received light to moderate rains. Instead of this, Coastal Andhra Pradesh is rain deficient by 28%, as of October 15.
During the last 24 hours, light rains occurred over Rayalaseema as well. However, Rayalaseema is running 25% rain surplus as of now. This rain surplus can be attributed to the good rains experienced by the region during to first week of October.
Looking at the figures, during the last 24 hours, Tirupati received 56 mm of rains, Nellore 40 mm, Kavali 68 mm, Ongole 46 mm, Narsinghpur 14 mm, Kakinada 8 mm, Bapatla 6 mm and Machilipatnam received light rains.
We expect moderate rains with one or two heavy spells to occur over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during the next 24 hours. Thereafter the rain intensity will decrease.
The reason for these rains is a Trough which is extending in lower levels from Odisha to North Tamil Nadu coast. Also, the Northeast Monsoon is about to set in over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the next two to three days.
However, a Low-Pressure Area is also expected to develop over Southeast Arabian Sea during the same period. Therefore, the moisture content will be concentrated over Southeast Arabian Sea. Thus, the rains will reduce over Interior Peninsula including Andhra Pradesh.
However, after the onset of Monsoon, on and off rains will continue over coastal Andhra Pradesh. During Northeast Monsoon, successive Cyclonic Circulations usually develop over Bay of Bengal and travel towards the Andhra Pradesh coast leading to increased Monsoon surge. So, now we do not expect the weather to go dry over Andhra Pradesh.
