Cyclonic storm Mandous has become a severe cyclonic storm but the system is not expected to retain its intensity for long and will very soon become a cyclonic storm again. The movement of the storm is more of northwestward and it is expected to make a landfall anywhere between Chennai and Puducherry tonight.

The peripherals of the storm have already started to reach the coast due to which the city of Chennai has recorded 68 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Now, rains will only increase further as the storm moves closer to the coast of Tamil Nadu.

Moreover, the wind speed is also likely to increase which means Chennai is in for some heavy rains with squally winds blowing over the region. In fact, there is a likelihood of the city recording some flooding rains, thus residents should remain aware and stay alert.

While landfall will take place only during the night hours, the forward band of clouds will reach the coast much faster which means, Chennai rains will intensify anytime now.
