Arvind Kejriwal battles severe winter in Delhi

January 22, 2014 2:31 PM |

Avind Kejriwal and his supporters battled mind-numbing cold and rain in Delhi to stage a 33 hour long protest, which ended with the Chief Minister being admitted to the hospital. The followers of Kejriwal were not deterred by the notorious weather in Delhi. They shouted slogans under an overcast sky and showed immense determination to continue the protest till they got justice.

The Chief Minister finally called off his protest on Tuesday evening after Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung promised to probe against the policemen targeted by Aam Aadmi Party for dereliction of duty. Proclaiming this as “a victory of Delhi”, the elated Chief Minister said to the press, "If any woman in Delhi is attacked, then we will not sit quietly." All of AAPs demands have not been met but according to a tweet by chief spokesperson Yogendra Yadav, this partial success “might prove to be a turning point in the history of Delhi's governance.”

Some of Kejriwal’s supporters used huge party posters to protect themselves from rain while others were seen singing and dancing around bonfires. The maximum temperature could not rise beyond 14.6°C while, minimum plunged to 12°C. The diurnal variation remained extremely low, in view of intermittent rain throughout the day. The Chief Minister could not battle cold day conditions in the city and kept coughing violently during his demonstration. Today morning, he had to be admitted to a hospital in Ghaziabad due to lung congestion.

The Western Disturbance in the Western Himalayan region and its associated cyclonic circulation brought rain over the northwest plains with the Palam observatory in Delhi recording 6.6 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
