Drought like conditions have completely grabbed the entire state of Maharashtra, further worsening conditions of already grieving farmers. Monsoon 2018 ended well below normal to the tune of 91%, with Maharashtra ending at 92%.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently declared drought-like situation in 180 talukas of the total 350 talukas in Maharashtra, pushing for immediate relief measures to tackle the situation.

Maharashtra has been witnessing subdued rains for quite some time now. Scanty rains occurred during October over parts  of Maharashtra, barring Marathwada that saw isolated light rains. These inadequate rains have resulted into arid conditions across the state, making it difficult for the locals as well as farmers.

Maharashtra is home to highest number of farmers suicides due to crop failure. Not only this, day maximums of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra are also above normal making the days hot and sunny.

However, a trough has developed from interior South Karnataka to North Madhya Maharashtra, which might bring light to moderate rains over many parts of south Madhya Maharashtra. Hence, we can get some relief from the prevailing hot weather conditions.

In the coming days, isolated rains are likely to occur over South Konkan & Goa as well as North Madhya Maharashtra. Likewise, Punekars might also enjoy light short spells of rain. Further, marginal increase is likely in the rain intensity over Marathwada but the residents of Vidarbha will continue to battle dry and warm weather.

Besides South Madhya Maharashtra, the other parts of the state will witness light rains only, not resulting into any significant improvement in rain deficiency of the state.

These rains will once again reduce significantly by October 26. Thus, people here need to wait a little more to get completely rid of arid atmosphere.
