April weather turning out like March

bangalore rain The month of March observed some unusual weather this year. Frequent spells of rain were experienced during the month and temperatures remained below normal for most of the time, making it the coolest and wettest month in last 100 years. According to data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the month ended with rainfall surplus of 97%.

And now April seems to be heading the March way. In the first eight days of the month many places have already experienced good amounts of rain and surpassed the monthly average rainfall. For instance the Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi has recorded 21.1 mm of rain so far against the monthly average of 11.5 mm. The Palam Observatory which is also in Delhi has observed 38.7 mm of rain against an average of just 12.1 mm.

Some places in Punjab and Haryana have also surpassed the monthly average rainfall. For example Chandigarh in the last eight days has recorded 22.1 mm of rain against the monthly average of 8.5 mm. Hisar in Haryana has received a whopping 63 mm of rain against an average of a meagre 5.6 mm.

The temperatures have also been maintaining below normal by 5-6 degrees on an average. The data available with Skymet shows that the average maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi in the last eight days has been settling at 30.8°C, which is 5 degrees below the monthly average of 36.2°C. In Amritsar, the average maximum has been recording close to 26°C, which is almost 8 degrees below normal. Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh has been enjoying a comfortable weather as the average maximum temperature in April is settling at 35°C, which is about 4 degrees below normal.

These temperatures and rainfall figures clearly indicate that April has been comfortable so far and the weather has panned out almost similar to that in March. And with another spell of rain expected from April 11, Saturday, the weather is likely to get cooler and pleasant.
