During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rains were experienced at some places of Tamil Nadu. The city of Karaikal received 1.4 mm rains in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, followed by Nagapattinam 6.4 mm, Pamban 3.5 mm, Salem 12mm, Tondi 3 mm and Vellore 0.5 mm of rain.
Presently, a Low-Pressure Area lies over Southeast parts of Bay of Bengal. This system is expected to further move in West-northwestward direction. After 24 hours, the same system will intensify over Southern parts of Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean. Till then, temperatures are likely to increase over these areas during the next 24 to 36 hours. Also, weather would be dry over Chennai and northern parts of Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours.
As the above system would come close to Southwest parts of Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast, the rain intensity will increase once again over the state. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected at many places on the late evening of November 19, going on up till November 20.
Places like Chennai and its suburban areas, Karaikal, Cuddallore, Nagapattinam, Puducherry, Thiruvarur, Vilupuram, Rameshwaram and Tondi may receive heavy rainfall during this period. While other places will receive moderate rain.
Thereafter, the rain intensity will decrease. However, light to moderate rains will continue over the state till November 22 before the rains come to a halt, finally.
