The low pressure area in south India has weakened and moved to Bay of Bengal leading to significant decrease in rain especially over Andhra Pradesh and coastal Odisha. However, north coastal Karnataka could receive some rain in next 24 hours.
Due to absence of rain and clouds, day temperatures which were 6-7 degrees below normal in south India will now start rising as clear skies will facilitate more sunshine. Above average night temperatures will fall due to change in wind conditions. Northerly to northwesterly winds would now reach these regions to make the nights cooler.
Water levels in the rivers of the region have started to recede raising hopes of the flood situation improving. So far, 61 people including 42 in Andhra Pradesh and 19 in Odisha have lost their lives in last six days in rain related incidents like collapse of a wall and drowning.
According to Andhra Pradesh state officials, rain has caused severe damage to standing crops like cotton, paddy, maize, groundnut, sugarcane, redgram, tobacco and horticulture crops in as many as 7.99 lakh hectares.
Odisha too has witnessed massive loses. According to the Special Relief Commission (SRC), 4.07 lakh houses and standing crop area of 1.51 lakh hectare has been affected due to flood in the state.
