After a brief respite, a fresh spell of heavy rain and snow is all set to mar the hilly states of North India once again. All thanks to two back to back Western Disturbances approaching Western Himalayas in the coming week.
According to Skymet Weather, both the systems seem to be active in nature and are likely to pound good amount of rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from January 21 to January 27.
First Western Disturbance has already started affecting Jammu and Kashmir. With this, fairly widespread light to moderate rain and snow will commence over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and few places over Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours.
The intensity of weather activity will intensify and the spell will continue till the next three days till January 24.
Simultaneously, another Western Disturbance which is touted to be even more stronger will also start affecting the region from January 24. Being more active, it will bring widespread moderate to heavy snowfall over all the three hilly states from January 24 to January 27.
The snowfall activity is likely to peak on January 26 and 27, wherein few places of the region may record heavy to very heavy snowfall.
All the famous hill stations of Srinagar, Gulmarg, Manali, Pahalgam, Shimla, Nainital, and Mussoorie will once again covered under the white blanket of snow.
This incessant week-long activity will once again bring the normal life to standstill. With some heavy snowfall in offing, several routes including arterial Jammu and Srinagar National Highway mat also get closed again. Threat of landslides is also looming large over the region.
Day temperatures will drop significantly over the hilly states, while night temperatures will increase. However, people will have to reel under bone-chilling weather conditions.
These weather systems will not affect the hills but will also have impact over the plains. The systems will also induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan, due to which plains of Northwest India will also witness a prolonged spell of winters rains between January 25 and January 27.
