The winter rains of good intensity have recently lashed Uttar Pradesh. Many districts of the state have observed light to moderate rain and thundershowers during the last two to three days.
These rains were a result of the Trough, which was extending from the northern plains to Bihar while passing through Uttar Pradesh. The system, however, has now weakened and thus the weather of entire Uttar Pradesh is expected to be dry for the next 48 hours.
On January 21, the flow of easterly winds would resume and another Trough is likely to form, from Punjab to East UP. The combination of two might result in isolated light rain along the foothills of Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, light to moderate showers may lash the northwestern districts.
These rains, however, would be short-lived and the weather might clear up quickly on January 22. The wind direction would once again change to north/north-westerly, leading to a significant drop in the temperatures. The winter chill would certainly return and nights may turn cold.
Post this episode, we do not expect significant rains to return to Uttar Pradesh anytime soon. And the reason can be the absence of any strong Western Disturbance. Although feeble systems would keep forming over the region, their impact is expected to be negligible over the northern plains. Barring, some northwestern districts, which may receive light showers, the weather is likely to remain mainly dry.
