Last week, most parts of Gangetic West Bengal including the City Of Joy, Kolkata were witnessing good rainfall activity. But after the rains, the week remained dry with temperatures seeing a steady increase. But this coming weekend, weather may hold some more activity in store for the region.

According to meteorologists at Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation has formed over North coastal Odisha and adjoining Bay of Bengal. Also, a trough from West Assam at South coastal Odisha is seen across Bangladesh.

Due to the instability in atmosphere over these areas thunderclouds are expected to develop. These clouds are expected to develop around the evening hours after a hot and humid afternoon. This weather pattern will be seen over Gangetic plains of West Bengal including Kolkata. Thunderclouds may produce thunder-squalls and hail storm activity in some pockets.

After the effect of this weather activity, temperatures may drop over the region with cool effect.

So far Kolkata has received 137mm of rainfall. Most of these rains were occurred in the last week only wherein continuous rainfall occurred for four days straight. The average monthly rainfall over Kolkata is 35mm which has been easily surpassed. With more rain in offing, this March may be the one of the rainiest months in the history of Kolkata.
