Monsoon showers will be back in the plains of North India after taking a short break. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, good spell of widespread rains will start lashing parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR and West Uttar Pradesh in next 24 to 36 hours.
A fresh Western Disturbance is prevailing over North Pakistan and adjoining areas and will start affecting the hills of North India by Thursday. By this time, active Monsoon trough which is presently running along the foothills, will also shift southwards over the plains of the region.
Both the systems combined together will give light to moderate rains over the plains, with heavy at isolated places from July 17 onwards. According to Skymet, this spell of rain is expected to last for at least two to three days.
This rainfall activity will usher huge relief from hot and humid weather, as the maximum temperatures will register a significant drop.
During last couple of days, the plains had been witnessing least weather activity due to lack of weather systems. Earlier on July 10-11, parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi had witnessed fairly widespread moderate to heavy rain.
At present, the northwest plains, barring East Uttar Pradesh are witnessing surplus Monsoon rainfall. The approaching spell is expected to further increase the surplus in the region.
