Another round of winter chill to grip most part of North India

February 7, 2020 12:02 PM | Skymet Weather Team

After January 28, the weather in most parts of Northwest Plains, as well as the hills have been dry. Only one or two places in the hills and parts of North Punjab have received some rains. Due to dry weather conditions and the continuous flow of cold northerly winds in the region, the night temperature has dropped in Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan leading to Cold Wave conditions in some places. The minimum temperature is settling 3-5 degrees below normal in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.

At present, we do not expect any significant weather activity in the Northwest Plains as well as the hills for the next few days. The next Western Disturbance is about to approach the region around February 11.

Until then, the weather will remain dry in the entire Northwest region and Cold Wave conditions are expected to continue for another 48 hours. The day is however expected to remain sunny and warm.

Winter rain has so far remained either in excess or large excess in entire North India. East Rajasthan is the only meteorological division where rainfall is 47% deficient.

The reason for these surplus rains can be attributed to the frequent and large number of active Western Disturbances which have given good rain and snow in the hills. Also, one after the other systems have induced Cyclonic Circulations and East-West Trough which have further helped in the rainfall activities.
