Another round of unseasonal rainfall in Maharashtra to commence today

Another round of unseasonal rainfall is going to commence in Maharashtra today. The formation of a Confluence Zone due to the merging of humid southwesterly from the Arabian Sea with southeasterly from the Bay of Bengal would bring in these rains.

The convergence of two different winds is expected to bring rain mainly in Vidarbha and Marathwada for the next few days. Isolated rain may commence in these meteorological divisions by the night of December 30. And between December 31 and January 3, we can expect a few intense spells in Vidarbha while scattered light rain with one or two moderate spells in Marathwada. The intensity will be at peak of January 2. There are also chances of isolated hailstorm during this span which might damage the present crops in the region.

Places like Nagpur, Akola, Amravati, Gondia, Chandrapur, Washim, Yavatmal, Aurangabad, Hingoli and Jalna are likely to witness these rains. On the other hand, the weather of Mumbai and North Konkan and Goa, as well as adjoining parts of Madhya Maharashtra, are expected to remain dry.

Effect on temperature due to rain

Until now, minimums were following a declining trend due to rainfall activities in Vidarbha and Marathwada. But due to a change in wind direction, the night temperatures may rise during the next three to four days. However, due to an increase in cloud cover and subsequent rainfall, maximums might see a drop of 4 to 6 degrees Celcius.
